The main reason I have pursed my current career path for the last 10 years is that my industry has an environment that heavily promotes personal growth and development more so than any other industry in the world to my knowledge. As a result I have been very fortunate to meet some very successful people in my life who with their unique philosophies have ignited within me an insatiable thirst for knowledge and information to strive to take every area of my life to the highest level and never settle for mediocrity. The countless books, audio programs and seminars that I have been fortunate to draw knowledge and wisdom from have completely changed my life and shaped my destiny, or maybe I should say helped to reveal it. This blog is one of many steps I am now taking here at 30 years of age to share that destiny to the world.
The wealth of knowledge and experience I have been so blessed to have over my life, especially since the introduction to personal development at age 19 has effected my life in every single area for the better. Now this is not to say that everything has been perfect, far from it. Like anyone there have been victories and successes, as well as heartache and disappointment. I’ve heard that “life is what happens while you are busy making other plans” and wow is that true. In fact the last few years of my life have been full of some of the hardest, most challenging, heart-wrenching days, weeks and months. Isn’t it amazing how we can so easily forget what we’ve learned, or how we can fall back into old habits and ways of being, if we aren’t constantly taking actions to remind ourselves of the truths that we know deep down at the very core of our existence. I find it so fascinating that each in every one of us is constantly being led by this little voice in our head, that seems to be judging our each and every move and action and constantly giving us feedback about own self-worth, purpose and ability to accomplish all of our hopes dreams and aspirations. Now if you are reading this thinking “What voice!? I have no voice in my head!!”, well my friend, that’s exactly the voice I’m talking about!!
This idea is where I came up with the name for this blog and the message I wish to share with you. I know we have all heard someone preface their input to another person (usually their unrequested input) by saying “let me be the voice of reason here…”, and the idea seems to be that they are sharing insight to the situation that will be beneficial and usually save pain, heartache and frustration or problems in some way. Here’s my thought, when someone wants to be “reasonable” or to be “realistic” doesn’t that often seem to coincide with an attempt to squash another persons attempt at greatness, unhindered self-expression or relentless pursuit of their dreams and goals? Now here’s the scary part, how often do we find that our helpful little inner voice is the one telling us to be “reasonable”, to be “realistic” or even worse that we aren’t good enough talented enough or capable of accomplishing and creating what we want in our life. One of the definitions of the word treason is the betrayal of a trust or confidence; a breach of faith; treachery. My purpose in this blog is to hopefully convince you that those thoughts of inadequacy or lack of faith and belief we all have at least moments of entertaining are treason! Not a crime again our own state or nation but even worse a malicious crime we are committing against ourselves!
They are lies, and there is not even the tiniest shred of truth to them! If we are to move forward in our lives with passion, love, joy and happiness we must learn to separate the destructive lies we tell ourselves from the deep truths of each of our own beauty, magnificence and power! We must all realize that each and every one of us has the ability to be, do or have anything our heart desires if we have the belief in ourselves and the courage to strive for our dreams. I’m sure you all have read or heart “Our Deepest Fear” by Marianne Williamson, but I am going to end this post by adding it here to review and reflect upon. I remember hearing it for the first time in the movie “Akeelah and the Bee” and literally jumping up and grabbing a pen and paper and watching and rewinding it until I could write it all down. They say “when the student is ready the teacher shall appear”, so I hope that someone reading this is an open-minded student ready to absorb the wisdom, beauty and infallible truth contained in these words:
Our Deepest Fear
By Marianne Williamson
Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness
That most frightens us.
We ask ourselves
Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?
Actually, who are you not to be?
You are a child of God.
Your playing small
Does not serve the world.
There’s nothing enlightened about shrinking
So that other people won’t feel insecure around you.
We are all meant to shine,
As children do.
We were born to make manifest
The glory of God that is within us.
It’s not just in some of us;
It’s in everyone.
And as we let our own light shine,
We unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.
As we’re liberated from our own fear,
Our presence automatically liberates others.
