What is it that you want and desire most in this life? What are the dreams in your heart that keep you up late at night? What would you do if it was impossible to fail? Do you have specific answers to these questions? I hope so because we are going to talk today about how anyone and everyone can get access to the place where everything they want lives.

Choosing faith over fear seems to be a common theme of many of these blog entries doesn’t it? Well that’s because keeping yourself focused on the energy of life that helps you grow and expand keeps you from focusing on the energy that causes you to stay stagnant and mediocre. Today’s message is all about COURAGE. Without courage we all can easily become paralyzed by the fear in our life and be prohibited from growing and pushing ourselves beyond our own perceived limitations in life. Everyone has things in life that they fear and things that hold them back. In Napoleon Hill’s timeless book “Think and Grow Rich” he speaks of how to outwit the Six Ghosts of Fear. He says there are six basic fears that all people suffer from at one time or another, they are as follows:

  • The fear of POVERTY
  • The fear of CRITICISM
  • The fear of ILL HEALTH
  • The fear of OLD AGE
  • The fear of DEATH

If we all stop and really think about our fears I believe we can all see how we have been plagued by fears in one if not all of these categories, in fact virtually everything we fear in life can be rooted in one of these fears. Do you constantly worry about money? Do you constantly worry about what other people think of you? Are you someone who fears CHANGE?

Nelson Mandela said “I learned that courage is not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.”

Mark Twain said “Courage is resistance to fear, mastery of fear, not absence of fear.”

And the great Martin Luther King Jr. said “We must build dikes of Courage to hold back the flood of fear.”

Everything we want in life is on the other side of what we fear! If we can learn to stare our fears right in the face and have the courage to move forward anyways, we will experience MIRACLES in our lives. We all tend to get into comfort zones in life, it is so easy for us to get complacent and settle because that is what the majority of people in this world do. Many people just do what everyone else does, they go along with the herd. Why are so many people trying so hard to fit in when we were all born to stand out? We all need to understand that if something does not CHALLENGE us it does not CHANGE us! Right outside of our comfort zones is where all the magic happens!

So I invite all of you to ask yourself this question: “What would I BE, DO or HAVE if I had truly unlimited resources and I knew with absolutely certainty that it was completely impossible to fail?”

If you had an endless amount of money, all the time in the world and failure was impossible, what would you do every day? What would you like to be the best at in life? What would you do everyday for free if you didn’t have to go to work and pay your bills? If you have never taken the time to seriously ponder this question, please do so.  By taking some time to really think about this question you will be on track to finding the answers to endless joy, happiness, success and fulfillment in life. Realize that the only limitations you have in life are the ones you believe. The only thing standing between you and all of your goals and dreams is yourself! There is an amazing line from the movie We Bought a Zoo that really sums up what it takes to breakthrough barriers and plateaus in our lives. I invite you to really think it about next time you feel an impulse to do something but then stop or hesitate because of fear: “Sometimes all you need is 20 seconds of insane courage. Just literally 20 seconds of embarrassing bravery. And I promise you, something great will come of it.”

So take the time to think about what it is your really want out of life, then find the courage to go out and get it. Moving forward in our lives we need to have compelling reasons WHY we want what we want, we can figure out all the “Hows” along the way. In the later years of our lives we won’t regret the things we tried and failed, we will regret the things we never had the guts to try. We don’t remember and fret over moments of embarrassment or mistakes, we are kept up thinking about those key moments when we felt that surge of inspiration or that gut feeling to act and do something out of our comfort zone and we shrank from the challenge. Those are the things we regret as we reflect on our lives. No one wants to live their life with a “What if” so have the courage to go for it and save yourself the heartache later in life.

Will it always work out every single time? Highly doubtful. Will we all fail from time to time? You better believe it. As John Maxwell says in his book of the same title can we actually FAIL FORWARD? It is in fact the only way you can succeed. Just remember that in life we all suffer one of two pains. The pain of discipline or the pain of regret. We can either discipline ourselves to be courageous, face what we fear and move forward anyways, or we can suffer the pain of regret later in life for never striving. Discipline weighs ounces and regret weighs tons. Choose discipline. Choose COURAGE.

For all of you big dreamers out there I invite you to play a little game with yourself while in pursuit of what you want. Just imagine that in the center of your chest is a gigantic dial, this dial represents your own power and energy to conquer fear, make things happen and succeed in all of your worldly pursuits. Every time you face a situation where fear makes itself known just imagine that the only way the dial on your chest can be permitted to turn up a notch is to go through the door of your fear. Every time you face something you fear and move forward anyways be being courageous your dial gets cranked up a notch and you feel a surge of power and energy that speeds up your ability to bring your dreams to fruition. This might seem silly and it might not, but realize that your personal power does in fact get amplified by doing just that, so give it a try. What do you have to lose? Everything you want is on the other side of your fears. Face them and find your power. Have the COURAGE TO GROW.
