What is it that you long for in life? What is it that keeps you up late at night? What are the most passionate desires of your heart? In our last entry “The Price and the Promise” we shared this thought:

“Success, happiness, love, joy, creative expression, fulfillment and inner peace are not things that lead to spiritual fulfillment, but they are actually the result of it. They are not the CAUSE but the EFFECT.”

Today I would like to expound on this idea, because everywhere I go I see people talking about goals, dreams, desires and things they are looking towards in the future. Now I am a big believer in goal setting, and a huge proponent in having things we work toward in the future, but the question I pose is this: Will accomplishing or acquiring those things bring you TRUE fulfillment and LASTING happiness?

How often to we see stories of celebrities who seem to have everything you could want in life (success, fame, fortune, notoriety and the love and adoration of many) yet they die from a drug overdose, end up in jail or rehab or seem to go into life cycles that can only exemplify an unhappy and unfulfilled life?  Haven’t we all personally experienced or heard of someone who has spent years of their life working toward some huge goal and upon accomplishing it felt like “Is this all there is?” Why is it so common in life to see people putting their personal happiness and joy in things that are so obviously temporary and fleeting? And even more so why so often do accomplishments not bring lasting happiness and true fulfillment?

WE SHOULD NEVER LET OUR HAPPINESS DEPEND ON SOMETHING WE MAY LOSE, OR MAY NOT ACCOMPLISH.

I have come to believe and have fully experienced in life that what everyone really longs for in life is true spiritual fulfillment, but so many of us have been looking in all the wrong places. The reason this post is titled “Looking for LOVE in all the Wrong Places…” is because LOVE is what we are all looking for. Now I am not referring to the love of a significant other, or family member or friend; I am referring to the supernatural LOVE of GOD. God is love and God is the only source of living water that can quench our spiritual thirst.

Now what I was not aware of is that just like God is a three-part God (The Father, Son & the Holy Spirit), we are also 3 part beings comprised of a Body, Soul and Spirit. This is a clear example of us being made in the image and likeness of God. Also our body, soul and spirit are each comprised of three parts as well. Our body consists of flesh, bone and blood. Our Souls consist of our mind, our will and emotions. And our Spirits are composed of wisdom, conscience and communion. Now this might sound a little crazy to you if you are new to the truth and source of true spirituality found in the Holy Bible. Especially if you are like I was and have always been seeking to quench your spiritual thirst via new age mediums and the countless pseudo-spiritual counterfeits taught in the world. I implore to at least temporarily dispel your judgement and hear me out for a minute longer.

The reason why countless people go through life and never experience the true happiness and fulfillment is because they do not realize that as the C.S. Lewis quote at the top of this entry states, WE ARE NOT MADE FOR THIS WORLD. Until the light of God penetrates the hardened shell of our Souls and lights a FIRE in our Spirits our thirst will never be quenched. Imagine crawling through a hot desert for days on end without water and being on the verge of death from extreme dehydration. Then to get to a giant pool of water that you drank and drank and drank from yet your thirst was never quenched! You drank so much that you felt your stomach would explode but it did not quench your thirst and it did not hydrate your body. This is what happens when we live out of our soul. Most of us are attempting to fulfill our spiritual thirst with our mind, will and emotions and thus we are on the verge of dying a spiritual death. We are filled to the max with so called spiritual food, but we are still hungry.

So let me give you a quick litmus test to self administer to see if you are currently experiencing this crisis. If you are honest with yourself do not worry, for I will give you the solution, I will give you the ice-cold beverage with super hydration power like coconut water for your Spirit after!  Most of us without knowledge live our life thinking that our Soul is the source of spirituality and thus we ignore our Spirits. This is mostly not our own fault because not only is this not taught even in many Churches today, but the world is full of the lies, deceptions and half-truth spiritual counterfeits that arose out of darkness. Many of the so-called spiritual teachers mean well, but they have attempted to solve spiritual problems with their souls and with logic and thus have only perpetuated the problem.

The first aspect of the Soul, the Mind, always says “I think.” Does your day-to-day life always consist of doing what is logical, and using sound reasoning to seek out happiness and fulfillment? “I will be happy when I have a bigger house, when I get that promotion, when I meet the right person, when I have a child, when I accomplish x, y, z….because so and so has that and they seem happy, or because society tells me this is what everyone else does, etc.” The second aspect of the Soul, the Will, is saying “I want.” The will is quite the egomaniac. Always wanting more, seeking attention and an elevated state through winning and acquisition and triumph over others. We did a post a month ago about how we need to change our paradigms from an egocentric view to an altruistic one if we really want to be liberated and free, check it out HERE. If you are always thinking that the newest phone, the newest car or wardrobe, etc will bring you happiness, and you are always trying to ‘keep up with the Joneses’ so to speak, that is a clear sign your will is leading your life. The last portion of our Soul is our Emotions, and they clearly say “I feel.” Now in my opinion this is the hardest aspect of the Soul to conquer because most of us have years and years of habituating our emotions to very quickly respond to external stimulus. If you are someone who’s mood and feelings is easily altered by the actions and words of others, your emotions are dominating and controlling your world. Living a life where your mind, will or emotions lead and dominate you day-to-day is the lowest and most un-evolved way a human being can live.

THE SOUL CAN BE A BEAUTIFUL SERVANT, BUT IT IS A TERRIBLE MASTER.

If we wish to fuel our Spirit, we must tap into our Source, God the Creator of the Universe. This is the solution and God has given us a direct lifeline to him. We must be reborn in the Spirit and transformed. “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.” – Romans 12:2.

We must fuel our Spirits with the Word of God. “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” – Hebrews 4:12.

My super amazing sister just posted a beautiful post on my Facebook today: “My brother Jason has gone through a series of transformations in his short 30 something years on this earth. From the quiet, artistic introvert… to the hyper superficial (sorry bro) extrovert… to now the charismatic enlightened follower of Christ. It’s been a roller coaster to say the least, but I’m so proud of how he has surrendered himself and worldly goals to be a warrior for Christ and help those that don’t know how to dig themselves out of the mess of this world. Those that like him, like me, that have been through some pretty rough times, and might not have someone to tell them that the voids they are trying to fill can only be filled and satisfied by one thing, and one thing alone: Jesus Christ.”

The last sentence she said sums it up best, the only way to truly fill the void and quench our thirst for our spirit is with a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Remember the 3 parts of the SPIRIT we mentioned earlier? COMMUNION, CONSCIENCE & WISDOM? Jesus Christ gives us a personal tangible way to have COMMUNION or fellowship with God and quench the thirst of our Spirit. God the Father gives us our CONSCIENCE, he imprinted it in us when we were created and polishing our link to our Source allows us to make better decisions and lead a more Holy life. Lastly the Holy Spirit allows us to access the infinite WISDOM of God and to make the discernment necessary to live a victorious life.

If this is all a little too heavy or a little too bold for you, let me share this with you, watch this 3 minute video and I’ll be back with you momentarily.

“If we win the Superbowl, we can say Jesus is still better.” Now I saw this before Superbowl and told my friend that if they genuinely believe this and they will give that message upon winning the Broncos were in trouble. What was the final score? Seahawks 43 – Broncos 8. One of the biggest beatings in Superbowl history. Coincidence? Perhaps.

Are you ready to be reborn? Are you ready to quench your thirst? Are ready to stop looking for LOVE in all the wrong places? If you go to the Source, you can find lasting happiness and fulfillment by seeking a personal relationship with God first. Then all the things of the world that you seek will come second through proper spiritual alignment. This is what happens when you put your priorities in the correct order. Old things pass away, and all things become new.

“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” – 2 Corinthians 5:17

Seek him, seek God, seek Truth and it will be revealed to you. You can ask the Lord to light a fire in your Spirit and quench your thirst by saying out loud this simple prayer: “Heavenly Father I repent of my sins, I ask your son Jesus Christ to come into my heart, and I accept you as my Lord and Savior. Baptize me in your Holy Spirit and quench my thirst for the only true happiness and fulfillment I will ever find through a communion with you. I pray this is Jesus name. Amen.”

Being born again is as simple as saying that prayer but cleansing the dirtiness of our souls and being transformed by the renewing of our mind does take effort and prayer. If you seek a true Spiritual life and real fulfillment, please comment with your name and any requests or challenges you have in your life in the comment section on this blog and a team of amazing and powerful spiritual warriors will pray for you. When you go back to your first Love, the restoration, renewal and rebuilding of your life can begin. God Bless you All.

I am so thankful that your journey has led you to God! Your paternal grandmother gave me a book when you were born called “The Prophet” by Kahlil Gibran. I believe Pauline regularly gave this book to new mothers, but I love the spirituality of Gibran’s writings. On religion he wrote, “Your daily life is your temple and your religion.” Our daily life should be walking with God and he will fill us with love and kindness and we will be fulfilled.

I’m grateful too! I definitely. believe that I had a little favor built up in Heaven from all the faith of my previous generations, which is why God didn’t give up on me when I was being a crazy hot mess haha. Yeah that’s such a great insight, we can all worship the Lord every day with how we walk through our day to day life and interact with others. I just saw a post today that said “the world is full of nice people, if we can find one, we should be one.” It’s so true, we are all called to love one another, to be kind to one another and to help and serve one another. If we can walk through life that way, we are actually honoring and worshiping God through our actions at every moment. Thank you for the insight. Love you!

Why thank you very much Jaclyn, I appreciate you reading and commenting 😉

[…] It’s horrific to watch someone in your life travel all the way to India for a month to seek “enlightenment” and find spiritual fulfillment, only to come back and be just as bitter and angry as before. It’s equally burdensome to see someone who previously made a very positive impact on your life go through heartache and to now be embarking on a new journey to find healing, peace and answers, when you know he is looking for love in all the wrong places.
